Kanal D hopes to replicate success of Kuzey Güney with new shows
Turkish broadcaster Kanal D is hoping to take advantage of the international success of Turkish drama by launching a raft of new series at MIPCOM.
The broadcaster’s global sales arm is heading to Cannes with series including Fallen Angel, Sultan and Almost Famous as it looks to replicate the success of Kuzey Güney.
Fallen Angel is a period drama inspired by Orhan Kemal’s novel “Kötü Yol, while Sultan tells the story of the disappearance of a groom on his wedding day.
The company is also launching its first format; My Partner Knows, an entertainment format that sees couples find out how much they actually know about each other.
Separately, Kanal D has recently closed a deal to sell Kuzey Güney in Pakistan; the first time it has sold a series in that region. “The growth interest in Kanal D’s tv series in Pakistan let to spring it around the neighbouring countries,” says Kanal D’s sales and acquisitions manager Damla Kesemen
