ABC Commercial to sell Jimmy McGovern’s Redfern Now
ABC Commercial, the international arm of the Australian public broadcaster, has acquired the global rights to Jimmy McGovern’s new drama Redfern Now.
The 6x1hour series, which is set to air on ABC1 later this year, is the first Australian drama series created by McGovern, who created Cracker and Accused.
Redern Now is six stories of contemporary indigenous life in Australia and features writers, actors and directors including Wayne Blair (The Sapphires), Catriona McKenzie (Satellite Boy, My Place), Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae, Mabo), Leah Purcell (Black Chicks Talking, Lantana), and Deborah Mailman (Offspring, The Sapphires).
The show is produced by Blackfella Films and exec produced by Darren Dale and Miranda Dear.
The deal was struck by Natalie Lawley, content sales manager, ABC Commercial.
