DRG taking female wrestling to Cannes
Female wrestling troupe WOW-Women Of Wrestling will be making their way around the world after international distributor DRG struck a deal to sell a series based on their exploits.
The distributor struck a deal with Jeanie Buss, an executive at the Los Angeles Lakers and partner in the wrestling promotion.
DRG will sell the original 24x60mins WOW-Women Of Wrestling series, which aired on syndication in the United States, as well as the forthcoming 26x60mins, which is produced by WOW Entertainment and Pirate Hunters producer 44 Blue Productions.
WOW-Women Of Wrestling is a soapy female wrestling league set up by wrestling promoter David McLane that sees 30 women compete including Thug and her tag-team partner Harley’s Angels.
DRG is hoping to strike a number of local production deals for WOW ahead of MIPCOM.
“Wrestling is the original reality TV – the presentation and drama is outrageous but also family friendly – WOW is a franchise that gives international broadcasters the opportunity to reach a very appealing target audience,” says Diane Rankin, SVP, acquisitions at DRG.
“WOW features strong characters that are highly relatable and fun to watch. WOW resonates with virtually every continent and delivers that loyal viewer every broadcaster is seeking. With an international cast of WOW Girls like Tel-Aviva, La Nina, and La Femme Fatale, our superhero characters are highly relatable to global audiences,” says Jeanie Buss.
