Fox nicks Copper for global channels

Fox International Channels has bought Cineflix’s period cop drama Copper and will launch it across over 50 of its networks this autumn.

Fox has taken first pay TV window rights to the ten-part series in Australia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Africa and Latin America.

Copper is the first scripted show from Cineflix Studios and is BBC America’s first ever original drama commission.

The series follows an Irish immigrant cop (Tom Weston-Jones) in the notorious Five Points neighbourhood in 1860s New York. It is created by Tom Fontana (Oz and Homicide: Life on the Streets).

In North America Copper will premiere on BBC America and Shaw Media’s Showcase channel (Canada) in August.

“Being BBC America’s first scripted commission and Cineflix Studios’ first scripted order, Copper was always going to be special; but having the fantastic talents of Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson on board too gives Copper an extra layer of polish and sparkle,” said Jason Simms, senior VP of global acquisitions at FIC.
