ABC orders six new drama series and four comedies

US network ABC has unveiled its 2012-2013 programming line-up and has ordered ten new scripted series including US versions of Mistresses and White Van Man, the UK drama and comedy series that aired on the BBC.

“We are using the success we achieved last season as a strong foundation to launch some more great shows this time around,” said ABC boss Paul Lee. “Last year was about stability and ambition, this year is about growth and continuing momentum, with strong programming that will stake ABC’s claim on more nights as the home of quality entertainment.”

666 Park Avenue is based on the Gabriella Pierce novel of the same name and is a modern-day Faustian tale set in an apartment block where the residents’ desires and dreams are fulfilled, for a price. It will be distributed internationally by Warner Bros.

Last Resort is about a submarine crew on the run after refusing to obey an order to fire a nuclear missile at Pakistan. It will be distributed by Sony.

Mistresses is a US remake of the British series about a group of four scandalous and sassy girlfriends and will be distributed by Disney. Nashville, the story of a country singer struggling to keep her successful career on track, will be distributed internationally by Lionsgate.

Disney will also be shopping Red Widow and Zero Hour at the upcoming LA Screenings. Red Widow follows a woman taking on the authorities and organised crime to find out the truth behind her husband’s murder. Zero Hour follows a man unraveling an ancient mystery in order to find his missing wife.

There are four new comedies: How to live with your Parents (for the rest of your life) about a conservative single mom moving back in with her adventurous folks; Malibu Country, a fish-out-of-water story of a southern belle who moves to California; The Neighbors , about a community of aliens; and The Family Tools, following a family running a building business and a US remake of UK series White Van Man.

All of the comedies will be distributed by Disney with the exception of How to live with your Parents (for the rest of your life), which will be sold internationally by Fox.
