International distributors pick up rights to several new Australian dramas
Screen Australia is funding four new dramas and DCD, eOne and Moonscoop will be launching them in international markets.
Entertainment One (eOne) will sell The Broken Shore, the upcoming TV movie based on the Peter Temple novel of the same name, internationally. Australian public broadcaster the ABC has ordered the show, which will be made by EssentialMedia & Entertainment. The series tells the story of Joe Cashin, a detective rebuilding his life after a bungled police stake-out. He is posted to a sleepy small town on the coast, but proceeds to uncover murder and mystery.
Essential said that it is also working with eOne and Hopscotch, the Australian distributor eOne acquired for $21 million last year, on two feature films.
DCD Rights will sell Mr & Mrs Murder internationally. The FremantleMedia Australia-produced thirteen-part drama follows a couple that run an ‘extreme cleaning business’ cleaning up crime scenes. It will air on the Ten Network.
Kids distributor Moonscoop, meanwhile, will distribute Get Ace, a new kids series for Ten Network from Australian producer Galaxy Pop.
Screen Australia also said it was putting funding into House Husbands, a Playmaker Media-produced ten-part comedy drama about stay at home dads that will air on the Nine Network.
