Chernin’s media firm plans expansion after cash boost
The Chernin Group has raised US$200 million and will invest in new ventures in the TV and media space.
Chernin, who left his position as Rupert Murdoch’s number two in 2009, has secured its new investment from a group headed by private equity firm Providence, the Financial Times reports today.
The cash will be used to invest in digital and traditional media firms. Chernin did not specify any new deals in the works but suggested a couple will be announced shortly.
Chernin Entertainment has made Terra Nova, Allen Gregory and New Girl for Fox and is working on a new pilot for the broadcast net, comedy series Ned Fox is my Manny.
The production division of Chernin’s company also has another comedy pilot, this time for CBS. The as-yet-unnamed project will be made with writer-director Nick Stoller.
