Cake bringing Fleabag to Cannes

Kids distributor Cake has picked up the rights to hit animated series Fleabag Monkeyface and will launch it internationally at MIPTV.

The 52x11mins show has been a hit on CiTV in the UK and is based on the Walker Books’ series of titles of the same name from British illustrators Knife and Packer.

It follows the adventures of Fleabag Monkeyface, a man-made, half-monkey half-boy and his creators Gene and Gerald. In each installment the trio unearth the smelliest and most disgusting places and things for their TV show Gross Out TV.

“This show is full of stuff that boys love, it’s gross-out comedy with gooey, stinky, slimy characters,” says Ed Galton, CCO and managing director of Cake Entertainment. “It is a whole lot more than burping, farting and nose-picking… but those are all aspects of it.”

Made by the kids arm of Primeval-producer Impossible Pictures and Singapore-based Sparky, the series was commissioned by CiTV .

Cake will launch the show internationally at MIPTV. Galton says: “It’s versatile, it’s the type of show that could sit in a lot of places: Cartoon Network would definitely know how to programme something like this or I would love to see it on Disney XD, Nick or local broadcasters.”
