AB cooking up Kaboul Kitchen sales at MIPTV

AB International Distribution is bring Canal+ drama series Kaboul Kitchen to MIPTV.

The France-based distributor will launch the show, from Scarlett Productions and Chic Films, in Cannes.

The comedy drama is set in Afghanistan in 2005. It takes the hard topics of warfare and the ensuing havoc it wreaks and introduces a comedy element. The 12x30mins series follows the life of Jacky, the French manager of restaurant Kaboul Kitchen, the place to be for expats who want to party, drink alcohol, smoke and enjoy its downtown swimming pool.

Though coping with the daily troubles of a country at war, Jacky is cynically chasing dollars, which leads him to befriend a drug-trafficking Afghan general, who also happens to be a candidate for the country’s upcoming elections.

The €7 million show, is helmed by Joëy Faré and Florence Dormoy, and Chic Films, which is run by Marco Cherqui, along with Euromedia France.

“Mixing drama and comedy, this production is the kind of format for which we have no reference point in France, it’s a genre that is not well known here and that makes it unique,” explains producer Joëy Faré, who also produced France 2’s hit series Clara Sheller.
