Starz strikes Canadian deal for Magic City
Canadian pay broadcaster Super Channel has acquired Starz’s forthcoming period drama Magic City.
The launch of the series in Canada will coincide with its US bow on April 6.
Super Channel will air the show alongside its other major US purchase Boss, which it recently acquired from Lionsgate. The broadcaster also acquired a raft of Starz movies as part of the package including Beautiful Boy, Happythankyoumoreplease and Kill the Irishman.
Magic City is set in Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel in the 1950s and stars Watchmen’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Quantum of Solace’s Olga Kurylenko. It was created by Scrooged director Mitch Glazer.
“Super Channel is delighted to land Magic City for its spring 2012 slate. The Starz series looks so cinematic and the production values are extraordinary. Magic City is one of the most talked about properties on the market today,” said Sandy Perkins, vice president of programming, Super Channel.
