#13: Arrow (The CW)
The US networks are deep into development season and have spent the past few weeks frantically ordering pilots ahead of this year’s Upfronts and LA Screenings. TBI takes a look at some of the most interesting projects that are up for consideration.
#13: Arrow (The CW)
The comic book superhero is a perennial fixture on the networks’ development slates and one of the hottest pitches this year is a remake of DC Comic character the Green Arrow.
While Fox was developing a series based on Marvel’s The Punisher and ABC has had adaptations of The Incredible Hulk and Jessica Jones in development for some time (following Disney’s purchase of the comic book studio), The CW is piloting Arrow – a modern day retelling of the story of Oliver Queen, the billionaire former mayor turned archer.
The pilot is being produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros TV; written by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim based on a story from Berlanti and Guggenheim. It is being directed by David Nutter, who directed the pilot of teen superhero series Smallville as well as series including The Mentalist.
It will star The Vampire Diaries‘ Stephen Amell as the Green Arrow and Gossip Girl star Katie Cassidy as a young lawyer turned lover.
Chances: Very high; a hot young cast with a superhero premise is the perfect fit for the youth skewing network.
