US Cable upfronts 2012: Syfy launching three new series
US cable network Syfy is launching three new unscripted series.
The NBC Universal channel’s spring line-up includes a US version of Total Blackout the extreme gameshow developed by FremantleMedia and Japanese broadcaster Fuji, in which contestants compete in the dark.
It also has Dream Machines, a Triage Entertainment-produced reality show about Florida-based brothers Marc and Shannon Parker who take cars and vehicles from TV shows, movies and comic book and make them into road legal vehicles.
The trio of new series is completed by Monster Man. The Gurney Productions show goes behind the scenes of a Hollywood monster prop workshop, run by Cleve Hall and his family.
Syfy had already announced it had RHI-produced miniseries Treasure Island. The new adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic stars Eddie Izzard, Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland.
