ABC Family orders raft of original programming

ABC Family has ordered a raft of original shows including comedy series Baby Daddy and reality show Beverly Hills Nannies.

The Disney-owned US cable network is pushing more heavily into original programming and unveiled its original slate yesterday.

Baby Daddy is a half-hour series exec produced by The Nine Lives of Chloe King‘s Dan Berendsen, and reality series Beverly Hills Nannies, which is produced by The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ producer Evolution Media. It also has an original TV movie starring Tori Spelling, The Mistle Tones, which will air next Christmas.

ABC Family has also renewed The Secret Life of the American Teenager for a fifth season, meaning the series will break the 100-episode mark.

ABC Family president Michael Riley said: “We’re very proud of our deep bench of original content successfully built out over eight years of exceptional growth.”

ABC Family’s current crop of original series includes Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth, which have rated well for the channel.
