#1: Devious Maids
The US networks are deep into development season and have spent the past few weeks frantically ordering pilots ahead of this year’s Upfronts and LA Screenings. TBI takes a look at some of the most interesting projects that are up for consideration.
#1: Devious Maids (ABC)
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry needs another hit given that things are coming to an end on Wisteria Lane.
As such, he is working on Devious Maids, a series that is loosely based on Televisa novela Ellas Son… La Alegría Del Hogar (The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood). The series, which is being produced by ABC Studios for its parent network, revolves around a group of Latina maids that look after the opulent mansions of Beverly Hills.
In the original, one of the tenants mysteriously disappears and subsequently a dead body is found in the swimming pool with a suitcase full of cash.
It is expected to star The Bold and the Beautiful’s Gina Rodriguez.
Cherry is writing and exec producing the series with Desperate Housewives exec producer Sabrina Wind, Televisa consultant Michael Garcia and literary managers David Lonner and Larry Shuman.
Chances: Good; Cherry’s brand of female-skewing soapy drama makes this a hot prospect.
