Nat Geo promotes Sweet following NGTI clear out
National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has promoted Germaine Deagan Sweet to SVP, global content sales following numerous redundancies.
Sweet, who was previously VP, content sales, will relocate from Washington to London to oversee the company’s international programming sales teams. She was in London to help implement the changes at the end of last year following the departure National Geographic Television International (NGTI) president Maurice van Sabben and long-serving VP of acquisitions and coproduction, Edwina Thring.
As first reported in TBI earlier this month, van Sabben and Thring were part of a group of around ten senior London-based staff that were either made redundant or did not have their contracts renewed.
This also comes after the announcement in September by Hernan Lopez, president and chief executive of Fox International Channels and National Geographic Channels International, that saw NGCI acquire NGTI, the sales and distribution unit of NGT.
Sweet will report to James Bond, chief financial officer for National Geographic Channels Worldwide.
