Raft of broadcasters get hitched to The Wedding Band
FremantleMedia Enterprises has inked a raft of new deals for its comedy drama series The Wedding Band.
The series was originally ordered by TBS and was FME’s first commission for an original drama series from a US cable network as the company ramps up scripted programming activity.
It has now been shopped to Network Ten (Australia), MBC (Middle East and North Africa), Viasat (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) and YLE (Finland). UK broadcaster Channel Five has already acquired the series and TBS has the Latin American rights, covering 48 countries.
The Wedding Band, which is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Mike Tollin (Smallville) will debut this summer on TBS. The 10x1hr series follows a group of guys who try to escape the stress and strains of their everyday lives by performing in a wedding band.
David Ellender, FME’s global CEO, said, “Working with an award-winning producer, A-list cast and talented writing team has resulted in a top quality drama with global appeal.”
