Shine clocks up sales for The Hour
British period drama The Hour is to fly internationally after distributor Shine International struck a raft of global deals, including its first with online streaming service Netflix.
The 6x1hour series has been acquired by Netflix in Canada and Latin America as well as traditional broadcasters including Australian public network ABC, Swedish broadcaster STV and Fox International Channels.
Shine International says the series has been sold into 80 territories.
The Hour is produced by Kudos Film and Television and originally aired on BBC Two in the UK. The show stars Dominic West, Romola Garai and Ben Whishaw and tells the story of a television news team that is mired in espionage-fuelled love triangle. It was created and written by Abi Morgan.
“The Hour is the cornerstone of our scripted slate and reflects the best in original, premium drama. The exceptional writing, cast, performances and pedigree have resonated with audiences worldwide, allowing us to create a global footprint for this quality returning drama,” said Ruth Clarke, vice president and head of EMEA at Shine International.
