Sony to distribute Netflix’s House of Cards
Sony Pictures Television is to take the international rights to Netflix’s first original series House of Cards after striking a deal with producer Media Rights Capital.
The international arm of the Hollywood studio will distribute the series to global broadcasters after striking the deal.
House of Cards will be directed by Seven director David Fincher and will star Kevin Spacey. It is a remake of the British political mini-series. The remake was developed by The Ides of March’s Beau Willimon, who will be executive producer.
Netflix will launch the show next year and Sony will distribute worldwide after Netflix’s bow in the US, Canada, Latin America and Spain.
The series is produced by Media Rights Capital, which produces movies including Babel and Bruno as well as TV series including The Life and Times of Tim and The Ricky Gervais Show.
