Gruen Transfer spin-off commissioned
The company behind hit Australian political satire The Gruen Transfer is launching a spin-off.
Zapruder’s other Films, the independent production company set up by Australian comedian Andrew Denton, is launching Gruen Planet, which focus on the public relations industry.
The show will air on Australian public broadcaster ABC and follows the success of the original, which hit a ratings high last year with its four election specials averaging audiences of more than 1.6 million.
The series, which is hosted by Wil Anderson, will follow the original series, which returns on August 3.
“In 2011, we’re adding another baby to the Gruen family, Gruen Planet, a new show that will look at the news of the week through the prism of spin, branding and image control. We can’t tell you much about it yet, because … well, because it’s still a secret. Mostly,” it announced in a statement.
The Gruen Transfer was launched internationally last year at MIPCOM as The Big Sell and distributed by Fox Look, the formats arm of the News Corp-owned company.
