LA Screenings 2011: ABC announces pick-ups

ABC has picked up new dramas including a reboot of Charlie’s Angels, glossy 60s airline drama Pan Am and Good Christian Belles (previously Good Christian Bitches), which will be exec-produced by Darren Star (Sex and the City).

Other new scripted series include Stillking Films’ Missing, with Ashley Judd starring as a mom tracing her son when he goes missing abroad. Once Upon a Time, from the producers of Lost, is an ABC Studios-produced fairy-tale meets modern life fantasy drama about a mom reunited with her estranged son. ABC Studios also makes Good Christian Belles.

Revenge is another ABC Studios show. It tells the story of a woman, played by Emily Van Camp, driven to avenge her family. ABC also makes The River and Scandal. The River is the story of a wildlife expert and TV personality who goes missing. Scandal is a procedural revolving around the life of a crisis manager and her dysfunctional staff.

Pan Am could be described as Mad Men at 30,000 feet and is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Sony also produces the new Charlie’s Angels.

There are five new comedies.

Fox-produced Apartment 23 is about a colourful, bizarre group of friends in New York.  Fox also makes Last Man Standing, which stars Tim Allen as an alpha-male dad who has to start looking after his three teenage daughters.

ABC Studios’ Man Up is about three guys getting in touch with themselves and the modern world. Warner Bros.-produced Suburgatory is about a New York family that relocates to the suburbs. Warner Bros. also makes high-concept comedy Work It, about two guys who have to pretend to be women to land the jobs they are after.
