Sony Pictures Television has bought several big-ticket drama series for its new channel, AXN Black.
The AXN spin-off launched in Portugal today and a Spanish launch is also in the offing.
Sony has picked up several high-profile series for the channel including HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and hit Danish series The Killing. It has also acquired Misfits and Wallander from BBC Worldwide and Criminal Justice from DRG.
In Portugal, the channel has launched on the Meo, Zon, Cabovisao pay TV platforms as well as the AR Telecom, Vodafone Casa TV and Optimus Clix IPTV platforms. The core AXN service is already distributed throughout Iberia.
Announcing the channel, senior VP, Networks, EMEA, Eddie Nelson, said: “With its combination of standout, award-winning productions from around the world, AXN Black will be the destination of choice for drama and movie aficionados.”
