SevenOne’s royal wedding TV movie sells worldwide
William & Kate, the TV movie about the upcoming British royal wedding for US cable net Lifetime, has been sold to a raft of broadcasters.
Italian public broadcaster RAI and free-to-air networks Antena 3 (Spain), Sat.1 (Germany), SIC (Portugal), TV2 (Norway) and SBS (Denmark) have all bought the scripted show.
William & Kate, is coproduced by Germany’s SevenOne International and The Konigsberg Company. SevenOne has all international rights – ex-North America – and will handle international sales of the show, which was fast-tracked by Lifetime and tracks the relationship of the young couple up to their fairytale wedding.
The distributor said that it has also sold the show to unnamed broadcasters in Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltics, Greece and New Zealand.
“The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is the TV highlight of the year with 2.5 billion viewers expected,” Jens Richter, managing director, SevenOne International. “We are absolutely thrilled we can offer our event movie, telling their true love story, in time for the wedding.”
William & Kate will air on Lifetime ahead of the royal wedding on April 29. US cable channel Hallmark will also show a TV movie based on the couple’s relationship, William and Kate: A Royal Love Story, but that will not TX until after the event, in August.
