Target picks up new Oz drama from Underbelly producer
UK-based distributor Target Entertainment has picked up the international rights to Crownies, the upcoming Australian drama from the Screentime, the creators of hit scripted series Underbelly.
Crownies will debut on the ABC this August after the Australian public broadcaster ordered the 22x1hr show. The series, which went into production last month, follows five young solicitors as they cut their teeth in the Department of Public Prosecution.
Target will launch the series internationally at MIP TV. It will have a promo and scripts for buyers at the market and with the first full episodes due in April, expects to announce presales ahead of the show’s TX.
“Underbelly raised the bar for Australian drama and having watched its success, we have been looking for the next big thing from Australia,” Target’s sales director Hannah Worrall told TBIvision. “This feels like a new take on a legal drama.”
Screentime’s Des Monaghan said: “We are confident that Target will help take the show to audiences around the globe.”
