3net 3D channel launching on DirecTV this Sunday
The three-way Discovery, Sony, IMAX joint-venture 3D channel 3net will launch on DirecTV this Sunday. DTH operator DirecTV will be the first to carry the channel when it launches at 8pm ET in the 107 slot on the EPG.
3net says it will offer the largest library of native 3D entertainment content in the world by the end of 2011. The network will open with China Revealed, an hour-long series about the country. It will be followed by underwater show Into the Deep 3D and Forgotten Planet, a one-hour series about abandoned cities.
“Quality 3D programming is vital to the success and increased adoption of the technology, and with industry leaders like Discovery, Sony and IMAX making a commitment to this category, it is clear that 3D is here to stay and is only going to get better,” said Derek Chang, executive vice president, content strategy and development, DirecTV. “We are excited to be the first distributor to announce the launch of 3net.”
