MTV to remake Sony’s Plain Jane

MTV is launching an international version of US fashion format Plain Jane after striking a deal with Sony Pictures Television’s 2waytraffic.

The Viacom-owned broadcaster is to remake the series, which airs in the US on youth-skewing channel The CW, for the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. The new English-language version of the show will be produced by Sony-owned Gogglebox Entertainment across London, New York, Paris and Rome.

The original 6x1hour series follows fashion journalist and The City star Louise Roe as she gives a girl a makeover ahead of a big date. The new version, which will consist of eight one hour episodes, will also star Roe.

Plain Jane reflects our audience’s tastes and core attributes that translate well internationally, such as fashion, life transformation and love, to a really engaging and standout host,” said David Booth, senior VP, content and programming, MTV Networks International.

Additionally, the format has also been picked up by French Canadian broadcaster TVA Monde, which is set to air 16 epsiodes as LeTresor en Moi.
