Fox to remake BBC pilot Stanley Park

Fox is to develop a US version of British pilot Stanley Park after striking  a deal with producer and distributor Lionsgate.

Lionsgate is also looking to expand its production business in the UK, Canada and Latin America as it looks to grow its international business.

Chief executive Jon Feltheimer, who was named Personality of the Year 2010 at Mipcom, told TBIvision that it also expects the British public broadcaster to order the show, which he described as a scripted Jersey Shore, to full series following the deal.

Feltheimer said: “It’s a big development deal and what I found was interesting was that you could create content in one part of the world and even if it doesn’t work you could look at other territories. The BBC would be crazy not to pick it.”

The show was originally a pilot for digital channel BBC Three but has not yet been picked up in the UK.

Feltheimer also told TBIvision that the company will expand in the UK and Canada. “We have a great business operation in the UK and I think there’s no question that we will expand our production in the UK and are looking at the same opportunities in Canada.”

The company recently struck a deal with Spanish language producer and distributor Televisa to produce movies and that the two companies would also seek to develop TV series. “We’ll look at producing television together as well as theatrical,” he added.
