Germany’s Beta acquires TV and film libraries
German distributor Beta Films has acquired the libraries of a number of US and Spanish firms.
The company, which is run by Jan Mojto, has acquired the TV and film catalogs of US producer and distributor Porchlight Entertainment and Spain’s Zeta Group’s On Pictures. These purchases will boost Beta’s film library by nearly 70 movies.
The 22 Porchlight TV movies include Changing Hearts starring Lost’s Ian Somerhalder, Hush starring Tori Spelling and Lifetime feature Best Friends and Hallmark Channel’s Deadly Season.
The Zeta Group’s On Pictures catalog includes the TV and theatrical rights to a number of Hollywood movies including Paranormal Activity and The Reader as well as Open Water 2 and Hotel Rwanda. The 22 films also include an option for the Spanish rights to John Cusack’s Shanghai.
Beta Films, which was launched in 1959, has been growing since it was acquired by Mojto in 2003 and represents a range of TV series, animated series and documentaries as well as the German rights for international series including Jpod, Sea Patrol and Star Trek.
