Antena3 launches 3D drama series

Spanish commercial broadcaster Antena 3 has commissioned the first TV series to be filmed entirely in 3D. The network has ordered a second season of novela series Los Protegidos (The Protected), which will be filmed in 3D.

While a number of broadcasters have launched one off specials and event mini-series in 3D, as well as one off events such as concerts and sporting events, this is the first long running series to be produced using the nascent technology.

Production of the fantasy drama, which follows a group of superheroes, will take between 5-7 days longer than usual.

“Los Protegidos is especially well suited to be taped using this technique because of its content and special effects,” the broadcaster noted.
