Notional eyes international formats move
Notional, the US production company formed by College Humor founder Ricky Van Veen and backed by Barry Diller, is eyeing up opportunities to produce formats for international broadcasters.
The company, which was set up earlier this year, announced its development slate last month with series including Ready, Set, Dance, gameshow You Vs America, reality show Chase The Money and FremantleMedia-distributed dating show Love Taxi.
Ricky Van Veen told TBIvision that it was keen to produce formats for international broadcasters as well as the US networks and cable channels. “We want to think about the scalability of these shows and make formats that translate internationally,” he said.
Van Veen says this came on the back of the company’s debut trip to Mipcom this year. “We went to Mipcom in October and that was interesting because it was our first [glimpse] of the international marketplace. We took Ready, Set, Dance there and we went to introduce ourselves and a bunch of distributors were interested,” he added.
