NBC orders Road Trip from the BBC
NBC has ordered new BBC Worldwide format Great American Road Trip. The US network’s version, NBC’s Great American Road Trip, will have an eight-week run starting July 1.
The format was developed by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster, and the NBC version will be produced out of the BBC’s LA studios. The show follows several families as they embark on a 6,000 mile journey across America, taking on challenges and competing for prizes along the way.
“The road trip is the quintessential American family vacation,” said Jane Tranter, executive VP, programming and production, BBC Worldwide productions. The NBC deal is the second major announcement from Worldwide’s US production arm since Tranter joined in January – the other being the development of a local version of UK comedy series Absolutely Fabulous for US network Fox.
Worldwide said it is talking to broadcasters in other parts of the world about local versions of the format.
