Galleon acquires stake in US producer

Producer and distributor Galleon has acquired a stake in US digital production company Dragonfruit Entertainment as it looks to expand its US business.

Galleon has paid £252,000 (US$) for a 19% stake in the company, which produces and distributes multi-platform content.

This follows a deal with Dragonfruit Entertainment’s parent company Dragonfruit Studios to license Galleon’s formats in North America including Super Soccer Star and Apollo’s Pad.

Dragonfruit, which is run by former Ant Farm Interactive executives Michael Koziol and Melissa Honabach, is currently repurposing Apollo’s Pad, a male skewing online sitcom, for US audiences. It is also selling sports format Super Soccer Star, which has already been a giant hit in China, where the first series, produced in association with Chelsea Football Club, became a top five show in the Guangdong province.
