TV Loonland will âlook differentâ by MIP TV
Having restructured the company and reduced its debt load, there are more changes afoot at German-based kids producer and distributor TV Loonland.
Management had said previously that a partial or full sale, or a merger was a possibility. "We will look different by MIP TV," says company CEO Simon Flamank. "That might take the form of us having new shareholders. We’re free of bank debt and have sold some assets. Does that make attractive to people? Yes, and we have had discussions. We will see investors come into our space."
The company has shed its library and its home entertainment business Metrodome, which was picked up by Romanian media group MediaPro for £2.1 million earlier this year.
Fellow German media company Your Family Entertainment acquired a 3% stake of Loonland in May. Reporting half-year financials in September the company said it was "back on track after a difficult period of time."
Meanwhile, Loonland has shopped several of its shows to large broadcasters this year. In the UK ITV picked up Pat and Stan and Raymond by a host of broadcasters including ABC in Australia.
Its latest series, Leon, was one of the most-screened projects at MIPCOM Junior and has been picked up by CBBC in the UK.
"People talk about corporate issues but we have got on with making shows," says Flamank. "People understand that now the core of the business is quality programming."
