ABC Studios making Maid in Manhattan for TV
ABC Studios is making a pilot based upon the Jennifer Lopez 2002 Sony Pictures’ movie Maid in Manhattan. Lopez will exec-produce the pilot, which ABC hopes will get picked up as an hour-long comedy drama.
The rom-com pitched Lopez as a struggling single mother, who works at an upscale Manhattan hotel where she falls in love with senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes).
Chad Hodge is penning the script for the pilot and told press the TV show will focus on a different Latino maid from the movie and will focus more on the relationship between her and her colleagues. Hodge referenced classic British drama Upstairs Downstairs (distributed by Granada International) when talking about the pilot.
ABC previously tried making a small-screen version of the show back in 2004. The Maid in Manhattan movie grossed $174 million.
