BBCWW inks first HD deal in CEE

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the British public broadcaster, has sold a package of high definition programming to an Eastern European broadcaster for the first time.

It has sold a 112 hours package to Albanian broadcaster Digit-Alb.

"You always expect certain things to happen in certain markets, but we’ve just done our first pure HD deal in Albania. Don’t assume anything," Christina Muller, territory manager of Eastern European TV sales at BBC Worldwide told TBIvision.

The deal includes factual and drama series such as 5x1hour documentary Earth: Power of the Planet, Damien Lewis-fronted action series Warriors and Robin Hood.

BBC Worldwide has seen its business in the region double in the last couple of years. It has also recently closed volume deals including the sale of 302 hours of drama and factual entertainment content to Croatian public broadcaster HRT.
