ITV buys Silverback

ITV has acquired Swedish-based indie producer Silverback for an initial £5.2 million ($10.1 million). The UK commercial broadcaster said it will make a further payment of up to £8.8 million, which will be calculated on Silverback’s performance over the next three years.

Silverback was created in 2007 following a management buy-out after John de Mol’s Talpa sold its stake in what was then Talpa Scandinavia. It is headed by Anna Carrfors Bråkenhielm and specialises in creating TV and interactive formats.

Bråkenhielm said the deal will "help establish Silverback as one of the leading creators and producers of entertainment formats across the world."

Silverback will now look at importing ITV formats into the Nordic territories while ITV will take exclusive rights to Silverback properties in international markets.
