Super RTL, N24 ink Nat Geo deals

German commercial broadcaster Super RTL has revamped its primetime schedule to accommodate a slot for documentaries and has inked a volume deal with National Geographic Television International (NGTI) to fill it.

The channel, which is owned by German broadcast group RTL and Disney, airs children’s programmes during the day and drama and comedy during the evening. But after airing a number of successful wildlife and natural history documentaries, it decided to launch a standalone factual strand.

The distribution arm of Nat Geo has sold the broadcaster nine hours of documentaries including 3x1hr Tales from the Tomb, 4x1hr Dangerous Encounters and 3x1hr Prehistoric Hunters.

Meanwhile, NGTI has also sold 17 hours of docs to ProSiebenSat.1-owned news and current affairs channel N24 including Mega Bridges, Ultimate Factories, Aryan Brotherhood and History’s Secrets: The Hunt for Hitler and has closed a deal with Kabel 1 for Lockdown and Ultimate Shark.
