La Sexta revamps schedule

Spanish free-to-air broadcaster La Sexta has revamped its new year schedule with a number of international acquisitions and local commissions.

La Sexta, which is owned by Spanish production company Mediapro, Mexican media company Televisa and investors including billionaire George Soros, increased its ratings share by 2 percentage points in 2007 and now has an audience share of 5.1%.

In order to cement this ratings position it has acquired British drama Robin Hood from BBC Worldwide, the third season of 20^th Century Fox Television International’s crime drama Bones, which stars former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star David Boreanaz and the second season of James Wood’s legal drama Shark.

The channel has also commissioned a number of documentaries, which it will air between 9pm and 11pm. It is launching Gotas de Vida (Drops of Life), which has been produced by Mediapro. The four part documentary series, which is being distributed by Imagina, follows 20 people as they travel the world looking at the effect of climate change.
