2waytraffic sells Millionaire spin-off

UK-listed producer and distributor 2waytraffic has inked a number of major deals for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? spin-off 50-50.

Broadcasters including Australia’s Nine Network, Japan’s Fuji TV and Greece’s Mega Channel have all picked up rights to the show, the first spin-off of the hit format. Endemol Italy will also produce a version after it picked up the local rights.

The show follows the 50-50 life line offered to Millionaire contestants if they can’t choose between the four answers. Contestants of 50-50 play in pairs and the aim of the game is to make a choice between two possibilities. The first player in the pair must answer the question before it is then offered to the partner who must agree or disagree. Following a couple of rounds the pair must decide how much prize money they think they deserve to win.

2waytraffic is offering the show as a daily stripped format or as a weekly primetime gameshow. Japan’s Fuji will air the pilot in November, while Greece’s Mega Channel will air a daily version of the show at the end of 2008.

The deals follows 2waytraffic’s acquisition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and distributor Celador International in December 2006.
