Stargate goes direct to video
MGM is ramping up production on two direct-to-video movies from the Stargate franchise.
The studio has teamed with the US Navy to shoot a number of scenes for the upcoming movie Stargate: Continuum, which resumes filming in May. Cast members inlcuding Ben Browder and Amanda Tapping will travel to the Artic to shoot the action scenes at the Navy’s Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station.
Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: The Arc of Truth, which are being written and produced by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, will both debut in the middle of 2008.
Stargate is the longest running sci-fi series in US television history and MGM, along with its funding partner 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, hopes that the direct-to-video features will extend the franchise further.
