Hulu strikes major content deal with Disney
US streaming service Hulu has inked a content deal with Disney that gives it over 500 episodes of kids programming from the Mouse House.
The deal, which mark Hulu stepping up its kids TV output, gives the streaming service programming from the Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD linear channels.
Hulu gets exclusive SVOD rights to the raft of content, which includes Disney’s K.C. Undercover, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Gravity Falls and Austin & Ally.
The SVOD service also gets catalogue titles such as Sheriff Callie’s Wild West and Henry Hugglemonster (pictured).
The agreement also covers over 20 Disney kids movies.
“As our biggest content licensing agreement with the Disney brand, this deal further demonstrates our commitment to offering popular, high-quality kids programming on Hulu,” said Craig Erwich, senior VP, head of content, Hulu. “These new SVOD exclusive Disney titles mark yet another way Hulu is building an irresistible content destination for families.”
Hulu’s streaming rivals Netflix and Amazon have deep kids offerings of acquired and original programming, and market watchers said the Disney deal was a sign Hulu wants greater exposure in kids TV.
Hulu already has Disney shows including Doc McStuffins and Bunnytown on its service. The latest deal was struck between the streamer and The Disney/ABC Television Group.
