WDR doping doc finds int’l homes

A German documentary about alleged wide-scale doping among Russian Olympic athletes has sold to seven broadcasters around the world.

Top Secret Doping: How Russia Makes its Winners, an in-house doc for German regional pubcaster WDR, has gone to VRT in Belgium, Globo in Brazil, DR in Denmark, Kanal 2 in Estonia, Al Jazeera in the Middle East, NPO in the Netherlands and TVP in Poland.

The doc, from WDR and stablemate ARD Sportschau, points to the existence of a Russian state-approved doping programme for its Olympic athletes and a wide-spread cover-up that involves various officials and politicians.

Autentic Distribution, the joint venture sales house of WDR mediagroup and German doc firm Autentic, closed the sales following its German broadcast in December, which led to international media and buyer interest.
