Euro nets bag Scandi drama Mammon

Beta Films has secured sales of Scandinavian drama Mammon with a number of European, Middle Eastern and Australasian broadcasters.

Germany’s ARD Degato has acquired the NRK show along with Sky TV in for New Zealand pay TV, SBS for Australian free TV, Israeli pay platform HOT, Lithuanian free TV channel LRT and Romania’s Antena TV Bucharest.

Final stage negotiations with a French pay TV platform are also ongoing, distributor Beta said. Channel 4 in the UK already has UK free TV rights, while 20th Century Fox Television has optioned rights to remake the NRK Drama series in the US following a deal with DRG, which has format rights in the territory via its first-look agreement with Norway’s public broadcaster.

Additionally, Germany’s Polyband and Australasia’s Roadshow have acquired home video right to the 6x60mins series.

Scandinavian distributor Nordic World sells the finished tape internationally, but licensed rights to Beta in certain territories, while MTG-owned DRG sells the format.

The political thriller, which comes from brother writing duo Vegard and Gjermund Eriksen, follows the story of a journalist that is drawn into a world of lies and betrayal after he uncovers a huge financial fraud involving some of Norway’s elite.

It won the Golden Bird Prize for Best Mini-Series at the Seoul International Drama Awards, which have over the years been a good indicator for scripted shows that go on to have long global presences.
