Netflix provides Sex Education in new dramedy

Netflix newNetflix is set to launch a new coming-of-age dramedy named Sex Education for 2019.

The series follows Otis Thompson, a socially awkward high school virgin, who lives with his sex therapist mother.

Sex Education, which will be available globally, is set to begin production in the UK in spring 2018. It is produced by Eleven Films with executive producers Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson.

Laurie Nunn is the creator and writer of the series and Ben Taylor will direct and executive produce.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Eleven team, creator Laurie Nunn, and executive producer and director Ben Taylor to bring Sex – a distinctive, fresh and witty examination of the universally awkward teenage experience – to our members around the world,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix.

Campbell said: “We are delighted to bring Laurie Nunn’s brilliant creation to life with such a gifted team. Netflix is an exceptional partner and we are thrilled to go on this journey together.”

Netflix has been upping its efforts in UK production in recent months, with season two of The Crown soon to launch and the commission of a New Pictures supernatural drama that TBI revealed was going into production in August.
