Canuck, German prodcos partner for dramas

Production companies in Canada and Germany are to develop and coproduce television dramas for the North American and international markets.

Toronto’s Copperheart Entertainment, the newly formed Remstar Studios and Munich’s Palatin Media have formed the joint venture here in Cannes at MIPTV.

Palatin, which launched in 2011, will act as international sales agent and coproducer under terms of the non-exclusive pact.

The first fruit of the JV will be supernatural-themed drama Incarnate, which is being developed with genre stalwart Clive Barker. Palatin has been launching the series here in Cannes along with horror anthology series Darknet, which goes out on Neflix in English-language territories.

Copperheart’s Steve Hoban and Remstar’s Clark Peterson are currently developing Shakedown for US premium channel HBO with David Fincher (House of Cards), and Peterson is also producing a pair of pilots for broadcast network CBS.

“What makes this joint venture exciting is the ability to put together productions with top North American and European talent, in collaboration with such dynamic producers as Clark and Steve–who have each separately produced Oscar-winning films,” said Palatin CEO Bernd Schlötterer, who is also the former long-time managing director and Telemunchen, of which he remains a co-owner.

“Being based in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Munich gives us a collective connection to the markets in North America and Europe, as well unique access to financing and talent in all these regions,” added Hoban.
