Maker Studios hires UK boss

danl-HewittMaker Studios, the digital content and channels specialist that is being acquired by Disney, has appointed its first UK managing director.

Dan’l Hewitt has taken the newly-created role and joins from Voower, the digital advertising marketplace he cofounded. Prior to that he was at hipster digital brand Vice Media and he has also worked at Yahoo, Bebo and DemandMedia.

Maker opened its UK office earlier this year. At the YouTube channel operator, Hewitt will oversee commercial and branding partnerships and will report to its president, international, René Rechtman who said: “Dan’l’s proven experience in building brand partnerships and solutions that support and encourage creative output will prove invaluable as we continue to build our global company.”

Hewitt added: “Joining Maker Studios at this stage of its international growth provides an incredible opportunity to build on the existing success of the company, to further develop sustainable and measurable commercial content models, and support original, creative talent who resonate with and delight global audiences.”

Hewitt’s appointment follows the recent hire of Elena Koudreiko as business director, international at Maker from AOL’s Branded Entertainment division.
