In-demand charts: Netherlands (July 24-30, 2016)
The global Pokémon Go craze makes an impression on our charts this week in the Netherlands. The inclusion of Pokémon: the Series in our overall rankings shows how impactful the augmented reality app has been on media consumption trends.
However, it is the ever presents – Orange is the New Black and Game of Thrones – that once again top the digital series and overall charts.
As was the case in Benelux neighbour Belgium, OITNB is the most in-demand digital show, taking almost double the number of average daily demand expressions and also charting at number five overall.
House of Cards has its highest placing since it topped the charts in Czech Republic (June 12-18), while Stranger Things breaks straight into the top three.
Talk in the TBI office on Friday focused on whether nostalgic science fiction-horror Stranger Things, which launched on Netflix globally on July 15, would reach take the top spot, as word-of-mouth and social media evidence suggested it had the wind in its sails. It looks likely to better its third place in forthcoming charts, as more Netflix subscribers binge the show and it amasses critical acclaim.
Following it in fourth is Bloodline, another unexpected Netflix hit, which is about 90,000 daily demands behind with 353,048, with Marco Polo in fifth, Narcos in sixth and BoJack Horseman – whose latest episodes have been making headlines – seventh.
Unscripted series Making a Murderer closely trails in eighth, with Jessica Jones some way behind in ninth. The only Amazon original to make the chart this time round is 11/22/63, which is in tenth with 131,242 average daily demands.
Overall, Game of Thrones is dominant, with more than one million demands more than second-placed Pretty Little Liars. The news will come as little comfort to the series’ fans, who are coming to terms with the show’s official cancellation.
Suits, the USA Network drama set in a fictional New York law office, makes a surprise entry into the top three following the debut of season six in the US on July 13.
The Walking Dead, off the back of the season seven trailer release on July 22, takes fourth spot, followed by OITNB (the only digital series entry in the overall chart), Robot and Prison Break.
The Pokémon TV series is in eighth, marking its first entry into our tables and highlighting the brand’s current power. Gilmore Girls and Teen Wolf round off the top ten.
