Sony shutters TriStar TV, with Jennifer Turner & Nicole Norwood exiting
Sony Pictures Television is closing its TriStar Television label, with its top execs, Jennifer Turner and Nicole Norwood, set to depart the division.
The banner is behind titles such as AMC’s Lucky Hank, but currently has no series on the air. Its development slate will be taken over by Sony Pictures Television’s drama development team.
EVP Turner has run TriStar TV since January 2022 after taking over from Kathryn Busby when she exited the company to join Starz.
Prior to TriStar TV, Turner, spent six years at Sony Pictures Television, where she worked on shows including The Good Doctor and The Boys. Before that, she was VP of drama at NBCUniversal, where she helped to develop Friday Night Lights and Crossing Jordan.
Norwood, meanwhile, joined TriStar TV in 2022 as SVP of development, reporting to Turner. She previously served as director of local language originals for Italy at Netflix.
No other layoffs are expected as part of the closure, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the shuttering.
TriStar TV had been closed for more than a decade before being revived in 2015 as a boutique production division within Sony Pictures Television, eventually forming a remit to champion diverse and underrepresented voices.
Over the past nine years it has produced six shows, including Good Girls Revolt and The Last Tycoon for Prime Video; Shut Eye for Hulu; Showtime’s On Becoming A God In Central Florida; Apple TV+ series The Afterparty and the aforementioned Lucky Hank for AMC.
