Amazon orders origin story drama ‘Young Sherlock’ from Guy Ritchie
Amazon streamer Prime Video has ordered crime drama series Young Sherlock, from Guy Ritchie, who will direct and executive produce.
Produced by Inspirational Entertainment and Motive Pictures, the eight-part series will serve as an origin story for Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary detective Sherlock Holmes, following him as he unravels a global conspiracy.
The series is inspired by Andy Lane’s book series Young Sherlock Holmes and is being written and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill, with executive producers Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, Marc Resteghini, and co-executive producer Harriet Creelman. Lane will also join as executive producer for the series.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin will star as Holmes, aged 19, who finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Holmes discovers a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.
“In Young Sherlock we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”
