BBC investigates upcoming MGM+ thriller ‘Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue’
UK public broadcaster the BBC has acquired Anthony Horowitz’s mystery thriller Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue.
The six-part series is being produced by Sony-backed Eleventh Hour Films for MGM+ in the US and recently started filming in the Canary Islands. Sony Pictures Television is distributing.
The show, written, created and executive produced by Horowitz, follows the crash of a small plane in the Mexican jungle. All the bodies are recovered and placed in a morgue – but it turns out that only one of them died in the crash. The other passengers were murdered afterwards, each one in a unique way.
The story unfolds in flashback, following the survivors as they fight against the heat, a shortage of supplies, the many dangers of the jungle – and each other. The ensemble cast includes Eric McCormack, David Ajala, Lydia Wilson, Peter Gadiot, Siobhán McSweeney, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Adam Long and Jan Le.
In addition to Horowitz, the series is also executive produced by Jill Green and Eve Gutierrez for Eleventh Hour Films. Richard Burrell serves as series producer, while Brian O’Malley and Viviane Andereggen will direct.
Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition, said that the series is “an ingenious, original and suspenseful murder mystery multiplied by nine.”
