Canal+ in France and RTVE in Spain are among a slew of European broadcasters to pick up Second World War docuseries D-Day: The Unheard Tapes, following deals with Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITVP).

LA7 in Italy, NPO in the Netherlands, SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark and Czech Television in the Czech Republic have also acquired the 3 x 60-minute series, which was originally produced by WBITVP-backed Wall to Wall Media for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in the UK, in co-production with The History Channel in the US.

The series features actors lip-syncing to recorded interviews with British, American, and German soldiers and French witnesses who experienced D-Day first-hand, combined with archival footage and documentary re-creation.

Andrew Zein EVP creative, format development and sales at WBITVP, said: “In D-Day: The Unheard Tapes, Wall to Wall has produced another extraordinary, moving and timely documentary series, bringing very personal accounts of World War II back to life for contemporary audiences.

“Just as it did with AIDS: The Unheard Tapes, the team has captured the hopes and fears of people with different backgrounds and experiences, transporting the viewer to a pivotal time in our recent past to hear directly from those who were there.”
